Back to Alumni Mentors: Chemistry/Physics
My name is Samantha Henry and I am a 2010 graduate of the College of Arts and Sciences. I have a bachelor’s degree in physics with a minor in chemistry. After graduating in the spring of 2010, I returned the following fall to complete a three semester program that led to a second bachelor’s degree in science education. During my time at ISU I spent a lot of time in the Physics Help Center and as a teaching assistant for many physics and chemistry labs. Those experiences had a huge impact on my decision to become a science teacher.
I have now been teaching chemistry and physics for six years at Terre Haute South Vigo High School. I have taught regular chemistry and physics, and I am now the honors and Advanced Placement (AP) chemistry teacher. In addition to teaching at South, I am also involved in coaching several science academic teams and sponsoring the current junior class. Through ISU, I was offered the opportunity to complete my Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, and I graduated May of 2017.
I can definitely attest to the fact that being a major in the College of Arts and Sciences afforded me a lot of opportunities that led me to my current career. The support from the professors and staff in the college, and all of the extra experiences I got in my time as a student were so valuable to me.
